Security Cameras & Wi-Fi in Mecosta and Osceola County

Mecosta and Osceola County are our backyard. We are based in Big Rapids, and most of our rural work happens on the back roads around it: farms, hunting land, lake places and small businesses spread across both counties.

Out here the jobs share a few things. Buildings are far apart, internet options are thin, and the nearest technician is often an hour away. We are not.

Security Cameras across both counties

Rural camera jobs usually mean the driveway entrance, the barn or pole building, and wherever the trailers and equipment sit. East of Big Rapids around Remus, nearly every camera call we get is for a farm. Inside a steel pole barn we put a PoE switch on the post nearest the doors and run short drops to the cameras, so only one line has to reach the house. That line is buried Cat6 when the barn is close enough, and a point-to-point wireless link when it is farther or a driveway is in the way.

On the lakes around Mecosta, the usual layout is the driveway, the front door, the walkout and one camera on the dock or boat lift. We mount high under the eave, out of reach and out of the snow.

Everything records to a recorder at the house, so a dropped internet connection does not cost you footage. Lake places and hunting cabins sit empty for weeks. For those we put the recorder and network gear on a small battery backup and set them to restart on their own after a power blip. More on Security Cameras.

Wi-Fi and UniFi networking for rural properties

When the house, the shop and the barn are spread across a few acres, we build one UniFi network that reaches all of them. Buried Ethernet covers shorter runs, and point-to-point bridges handle the long ones. If your internet comes from Starlink or a fixed wireless provider, we can mount and cable that too and feed it into the same network. More on Wi-Fi · Networking.

Older village buildings and stucco farmhouses

In Mecosta village, a lot of the buildings have brick or block exterior walls with plaster inside. We drill brick with masonry bits, seal every hole, and fish cable through plaster slowly so it does not crack. Older basements often hide old cable stuffed above the foundation wall from an earlier install. We pull that out and run new Cat6 on proper supports. Farmhouses around Remus are often stucco, added on to over the years. Drilling stucco the wrong way cracks the finish, so we use butterfly anchors where there is a hollow cavity behind it and adhesive with mechanical support where there is not.

Mecosta & Osceola County FAQ

Do you cover all of Mecosta and Osceola County?

Yes. We work across both counties from Big Rapids. Call or text with your location and we will set up an estimate.

Can you connect a barn that is far from the house?

Usually. Buried Ethernet runs up to about 328 feet; beyond that we use a point-to-point wireless link.

Can cameras work at a property with no internet?

Yes. Cameras record to a recorder on site. Remote viewing needs an internet connection, which we can help set up.

Can you mount cameras on brick or stucco without damaging it?

Yes. Brick gets masonry bits and masonry anchors, and every hole is sealed. On stucco we use butterfly anchors where there is a cavity behind it, or adhesive with mechanical support where there is not.
